5 ships 4 aircraft from China detected operating around Taiwan

The Defense Ministry reported that from 6 a.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday, five PLA warships and four aircraft were detected, two of which crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered the northern airspace.

PLA activity around Taiwan occurs nearly every day, with more than 470 vehicles already recorded in 2025. The Defense Ministry assures the public that the national army employs mission aircraft, ships, and shore-based missile systems to closely monitor and respond if necessary.

Taiwan has identified 52 “suspicious” Chinese-owned ships flying flags of convenience that require close monitoring if detected near the island, the coast guard said Monday, as Taipei seeks to protect its subsea telecoms cables.

The stricter regime comes after a Cameroon-flagged vessel was briefly detained by Taiwan’s coast guard earlier this month on suspicion of damaging an international cable northeast of the island.
