Authorities in Albuquerque are investigating a suspected arson attack on the Republican Party of New Mexico’s headquarters, an incident that has heightened political tensions in the state. The fire, which occurred in the early hours of March 30, 2025, caused significant damage to the building’s entrance and was accompanied by politically charged graffiti reading “ICE=KKK.”

The entryway to the Republican Party of New Mexico’s headquarters was scorched on Sunday morning.

Firefighters responded swiftly, extinguishing the flames within minutes and preventing further destruction. No injuries were reported, but party officials have condemned the attack as an act of political violence aimed at silencing conservative voices. State Chairwoman Amy Barela called for those responsible to be held accountable, stating, “Violence has no place in our democracy.”

New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, a Democrat, also denounced the attack, emphasizing that political disagreements should never escalate into violence. “This act has absolutely no place in our democracy,” she said, urging residents to engage in peaceful discourse rather than destructive actions.

Graffiti equating the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement to the KKK was spray-painted on the side of the building.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is assisting local authorities in the investigation. Officials confirmed that incendiary materials were found at the scene, strongly suggesting a deliberate act of arson. While no suspects have been named, investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and witness statements to identify those responsible.

This incident is the latest in a series of politically motivated attacks in New Mexico. In recent weeks, Tesla dealerships in the state have been targeted in arson attacks allegedly linked to political activism, and the Republican Party’s headquarters has previously faced threats, including a bomb scare in 2023.
