Vice President JD Vance said Saturday he was confronted by pro-Ukrainian protesters while he was out walking with his 3-year-old daughter.
“Today while walking my 3 year old daughter a group of ‘Slava Ukraini’ protesters followed us around and shouted as my daughter grew increasingly anxious and scared,” Vance posted Saturday afternoon on X.
“I decided to speak with the protesters in the hopes that I could trade a few minutes of conversation for them leaving my toddler alone,” he continued. “Nearly all of them agreed.”
Vance said it was a “mostly respectful conversation, but if you’re chasing a 3-year-old as part of a political protest, you’re a s— person.”
“Slava Ukraini” is a battle cry for the Ukrainian armed forces, meaning “Glory to Ukraine.”
While the vice president didn’t specify what he talked to the protesters about, the Trump administration has cut off funding in the last week for Ukraine and stopped intelligence sharing with the country after a tense Oval Office exchange between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, President Donald Trump and Vance.
Vice President JD Vance said pro-Ukrainian protesters confronted him while he was with his toddler.
Fox News Digital has reached out to the vice president’s office for comment.
Tensions rose during the Oval Office meeting Feb. 28 over a potential peace deal between Russia and Ukraine after Zelensky said Russian President Vladimir Putin couldn’t be trusted and had breached other agreements.
Trump and Vance then accused Zelensky of not being grateful for the support the US has provided over the years and said the Ukrainian leader was in a “bad position” at the negotiating table.
“You’re playing cards,” Trump said. “You’re gambling with the lives of millions of people. You’re gambling with World War III. You’re gambling with World War III. And what you’re doing is very disrespectful to the country, this country.”
After Vance told Zelensky Ukraine had manpower and military recruiting problems, Zelensky said war means “everybody has problems, even you,” adding the U.S. would feel the war “in the future.”
“Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel,” Trump responded. “We’re trying to solve a problem. Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel.”

Video has surfaced of Vice President J.D. Vance speaking with protesters supporting Ukraine who Vance said harassed him and his three-year-old daughter while they were out for a walk on Saturday near his Cincinnati home.
The video shows Vance and the protesters having a civil, but contentious discussion about the Trump administration’s push for a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia.
Vance’s little three-year-old daughter Mirabel stood next to Vance during the debate while he kept a protective arm around her, but was obstructed from the camera’s view by a Secret Service agent.
The video was posted by WCPO-TV with this caption, “WCPO has obtained a video showing protesters speaking with Vice President JD Vance near his Cincinnati residence. Vance claimed on X that the protesters were following him and his daughter before he decided to confront them. The protester who shared this video with us says that’s a fabrication. Vance’s side of the conversation is hard to hear at times, but he can heard telling the protesters the Trump administration is trying to reach a diplomatic settlement, that Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, that the U.S. does not have the resources to support Ukraine indefinitely and that President Trump is trying to force both Russia and Ukraine to the negotiating table.
Vance closed by reminding the protesters he agreed to talk with them for five minutes if they would leave his daughter alone.
Vance posted on X about the confrontation before the video was published, “Today while walking my 3 year old daughter a group of “Slava Ukraini” protesters followed us around and shouted as my daughter grew increasingly anxious and scared. I decided to speak with the protesters in the hopes that I could trade a few minutes of conversation for them leaving my toddler alone. (Nearly all of them agreed.)
It was a mostly respectful conversation, but if you’re chasing a 3-year-old as part of a political protest, you’re a shit person.”
Ukraine supporters have gathered at the entrance to Vance’s home in the Cincinnati suburbs for a three day protest running Friday through Sunday. Several dozen were seen on video posted on Saturday. The confrontation appears to have taken place in a different part of the neighborhood.
WCPO reported the Ukraine protest near Vance’s Cincinnati home was a three-day protest, “Organizers of the protest were also at the location Friday evening, and they plan to return Sunday afternoon as well.”
