Under orders from the Trump administration, the Pentagon is deploying 3,000 more troops and armored Stryker vehicles to the U.S. border with Mexico.  The orders expand current operations and to “seal the border and protect the territorial integrity of the United States,” officials said.

The additional troops will to bring the current troops level at the border to more than 9,000 service members to work with federal and state law enforcement agencies previously deployed.

The move was ordered by U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who posted on social media, “We are dead serious about 100% OPERATIONAL CONTROL of the southern border.”

A prepared statement from the U.S. Department of Defense revealed that the troops being sent to the border include a Stryker Brigade Combat Team and a General Support Aviation Battalion.

As Breitbart Texas has reported, since the start of his administration, U.S. President Donald Trump has deployed thousands of active duty soldiers and Marines to the U.S. Mexico border, citing a “National Emergency.” Most recently, government data shows that the aggressive measures and policies implemented by the Trump administration appear to have been responsible for a sharp decline in migrant apprehensions at the border.

Roughly 3,000 more active-duty troops will deploy to the southern border, the Pentagon announced Saturday, expanding a major military operation to curb illegal immigration — a central priority of the Trump administration.

Around 2,400 soldiers from a Stryker brigade combat team and 500 soldiers from an aviation brigade will join troops already there, bringing the total number of troops at the border to roughly 9,000. Strykers are armored vehicles that were last deployed to the border in 2012.

According to a Department of Defense press release, the troops will arrive at the border “in the coming weeks” to “reinforce and expand current border security operations to seal the border and protect the territorial integrity of the United States, a priority for the President.”

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth confirmed the announcement on Saturday, writing on X: “We are dead serious about 100% OPERATIONAL CONTROL of the southern border.”

Saturday’s announcement marks the second significant allocation of troops at the southern border — the Pentagon already sent at least 1,500 active-duty troops to the border in January.

The moves are part of a larger effort by the DoD and Department of Homeland Security to follow an executive order from President Donald Trump to use the military to “take all appropriate action” to staunch the flow of immigration, which the president called an “invasion.”
