KYIV, Ukraine — Russia intensified its attacks across Ukraine, killing dozens over several days as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged Western allies to provide more air-defense systems and ammunition.
On Friday, October 9, Russian strikes killed two people and wounded five others, according to regional officials. Attacks hit residential areas in Zaporizhzhia and damaged warehouses in the Kyiv region, where rescuers searched for a potentially trapped woman.
Deadly Strikes Hit Civilian Areas
Earlier in the week, a Russian-guided bomb struck near public buses in Kramatorsk, killing 30 people, according to Ukrainian authorities. Another missile strike in Pryluky reportedly killed 22 people, including five children.
The attacks have heightened concerns about civilian safety and further damage to Ukraine’s energy and transportation infrastructure as winter approaches.
Zelenskyy Calls for Stronger Air Defenses
Zelenskyy has called on NATO countries and other Western partners to supply additional air-defense systems, interceptor missiles and ammunition to protect Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure from continued Russian missile and drone attacks.
Ukraine Targets Russian Infrastructure
Meanwhile, Ukrainian drones struck data-center facilities operated by Russian technology company Yandex in the Kaluga region. The company reported disruptions at the affected sites. Russian officials also reported Ukrainian drone attacks in the Belgorod region that killed two people.
As both sides continue their long-range attacks, civilian casualties and infrastructure damage remain major concerns, with no immediate end to the war in sight.
