“Sickening Abuse”: London Nursery Worker Convicted for Torturing Babies in Shocking Campaign of Cruelty

There are two very different faces to Roksana Lecka. Photos posted by her family on social media portray her as a loving, caring young woman who helped raise her siblings, bottle-feeding and helping to potty-train them. ‘I am a proud mother to have such a wonderful person as you are Roksana,’ her mum wrote alongside images posted on TikTok, published here for the first time. ‘Thank you for being a wonderful second mummy to my children.’

A London nursery worker has been convicted of multiple counts of child cruelty after a horrifying campaign of abuse against infants under her care. The woman, identified as 24-year-old Patrycja Wieczorek, was caught on CCTV physically assaulting babies—including kicking a child in the face and vaping near cribs—sending shockwaves through the UK and reigniting concerns over childcare oversight.

The abuse took place at the Bright Horizons nursery in West London, where Wieczorek worked for less than two months. Footage reviewed in court revealed an appalling pattern of cruelty that included pushing babies over, slapping their heads, force-feeding them, and screaming threats. On one occasion, she was seen kicking a helpless 18-month-old boy in the face while laughing.

Parents were left devastated as details emerged in court, with many expressing outrage over how such abuse could occur in a licensed childcare facility. One father said his child returned from nursery appearing traumatized and anxious, unknowingly bearing the scars of repeated mistreatment.

The abuse only came to light after a fellow nursery staff member grew suspicious and reviewed surveillance footage. What they discovered led to an immediate police investigation and Wieczorek’s arrest.

She showed “no remorse” during trial proceedings at Isleworth Crown Court, where she was found guilty of nine counts of child cruelty involving multiple victims, some as young as six months old. Prosecutors described the attacks as a “campaign of staggering abuse.”

Shockingly, despite numerous red flags raised by colleagues, management failed to act until the damning footage was uncovered. Investigations also revealed that Wieczorek had been hired despite having no prior nursery experience in the UK, though she claimed to have worked in childcare in Poland.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Parents Demand Accountability

Parents have called for stricter background checks, better staff supervision, and legal reforms to prevent such incidents. The nursery operator, Bright Horizons, issued a public apology and stated it has taken “immediate action” to retrain staff and review protocols. However, many parents argue it’s too little, too late.

“This was torture,” one mother told reporters. “You trust these places with your child’s life. This betrayal cuts deep.”

Wieczorek will be sentenced in July and is expected to face a significant prison term. The case has prompted the UK’s Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) to launch a broader review of nursery monitoring systems and child safeguarding practices nationwide.

📍 Bottom Line

The conviction of Patrycja Wieczorek highlights a deeply troubling failure in nursery oversight and child protection. Her deliberate abuse of vulnerable infants underlines the urgent need for stricter hiring standards, better staff supervision, and stronger accountability in childcare settings. As families demand justice and reform, this case serves as a grim reminder that safeguarding children must always be a top priority—without exception or delay.
