KYIV, Ukraine — Ukrainian forces launched another major overnight drone assault deep inside Russia on Tuesday, reportedly striking the Afipsky Oil Refinery in Krasnodar Krai, one of southern Russia’s largest oil-processing facilities.
Russian officials and local Telegram channels reported fires at the refinery following the attack, while Ukrainian military sources later indicated that the facility was among the targets of the operation. The strike is part of Kyiv’s increasingly aggressive campaign against Russia’s energy infrastructure, which Ukraine says supports Moscow’s war effort.

Krasnodar Krai Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said Ukrainian drones struck several locations across the region.
According to the governor, at least 10 private homes were damaged, with one catching fire. A separate fire was reported on the premises of the Afipsky refinery, prompting firefighters and emergency crews to respond.
The Kyiv Independent initially reported the refinery strike based on Russian Telegram channels, noting that the incident remained a developing story.
The extent of damage to the refinery was not immediately clear.
Why Afipsky Matters
The Afipsky refinery is a strategically important part of Russia’s southern energy network.
The facility processes approximately 6.25 million tons of crude oil annually, representing roughly 2% of Russia’s total refining capacity, according to The Kyiv Independent. Its output includes gasoline, diesel fuel, gas-condensate products, heavy petroleum residues and sulfur.
That makes the refinery an attractive target for Kyiv’s long-range strike campaign.
Ukraine has increasingly attacked Russian refineries, fuel depots, terminals and other petroleum infrastructure in an effort to disrupt fuel supplies and impose economic costs on Moscow.
Fifth Strike This Year
The latest attack demonstrates the persistence of Ukraine’s campaign against Afipsky.
According to the Kyiv Post, Tuesday’s operation represented the fifth reported attack on the refinery in 2026. The repeated strikes underscore the importance Kyiv places on Russia’s refining network.

The Kyiv Post reported that Ukrainian drones targeted the Novoshakhtinsk refinery in Rostov Oblast, although details regarding damage were still emerging.
The simultaneous targeting of two oil facilities highlights the scale of Ukraine’s effort to pressure Russia’s energy sector.
