Ukrainian MP Calls for Crucial Impeachment Proceedings Against Zelenskyy

TOWNHALL | Published March 4, 2025

A member of the Ukrainian Parliament has called for impeachment proceedings against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, asserting that such actions are crucial for the future of the nation’s leadership. The call comes amid growing criticism of Zelenskyy’s public humiliation of Ukraine following his disastrous meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House last week. With his increasingly authoritarian approach to governance and downright refusal to accept a peace and rare Earth minerals deal with the U.S., Zelenskyy’s foreign policy missteps have led to Ukraine’s isolation on the global stage.

Alexander Dubinsky, a member of the Ukrainian Parliament, is calling for an emergency session to initiate impeachment proceedings against Zelenskyy. He accused the Ukrainian president of diplomatic failures, the country’s loss of unconditional U.S. support, and the regime’s complete collapse.

“Zelensky has not only failed in foreign policy – he has driven the country into a state where anyone who disagrees with his course faces repression,” he said in a statement.

Dubinsky criticized Zelenskyy’s stubbornness for the country’s reaching a dead end, noting that Ukraine has no more cards to play.

“Zelenskyy has lost,” Dubinsky said, echoing Trump’s previous remarks. “If he cannot offer a real way out of the crisis, then it is up to us to make fateful decisions.”

According to Dubinsky, Zelenskyy must be impeached for the following reasons:

  • The failure of foreign policy, which has led to Ukraine’s international isolation and the loss of allied support.
  • A lost war, which is the result of incompetent leadership and catastrophic decisions.
  • Violations of citizens’ rights and the usurpation of power, manifested in the suppression of the opposition, persecution of dissenters, and authoritarian rule.

This comes as Zelenskyy spoke to reporters on Sunday, saying he was “exchangeable” for Ukrainian membership of NATO. He suggested he would step down as his country’s leader if it were allowed to join the military alliance. Zelesnkyy also proposed that he is ready to sign the minerals deal with Trump.

Earlier, Dubinsky called for “an Emergency Session of Ukraine’s Parliament” to initiate impeachment proceedings against President Zelensky after the Oval Office “shouting match” with US President Donald Trump.

In a post on X, Dubinsky said, “I appeal to all Members of the Ukrainian Parliament: stop wasting time, stop waiting! Zelensky is bankrupt. Zelensky is not Ukraine! It is time to put him on trial. If he cannot offer a real way out of the crisis, then it is up to us to make fateful decisions.”

Who is Oleksandr Dubinsky?

Oleksandr Dubinsky began his political career by supporting Volodymyr Zelensky as a presidential candidate in 2019. He is no stranger to controversies.

Dubinsky, 43, faced a two-month arrest in 2023 on suspicion of state treason and was also accused of spreading misinformation about Ukraine’s political leadership, Meduza reported.

In 2024, the controversial lawmaker was found guilty of an administrative offense and fined for exerting pressure over the investigation of his corruption case, the Kyiv Independent reported citing the National Agency on Corruption Prevention’s statement.

The report stated that Dubinsky is a suspect in a number of criminal cases related to corruption and treason. He was charged with document forgery in August 2023 after he allegedly travelled abroad under a false pretext.

The US had sanctioned him in 2021, alleging ties to a Russian influence network and interference in the 2020 US election.

The lawmaker was expelled from the ruling Servant of the People party in 2021 after he was put on a US sanctions list over alleged election meddling. He denied those accusations and continued to work in parliament.

Zelensky-Trump “shouting match”

Dubinsky’s statement came Zelensky and Trump clashed in the Oval Office on Friday, in front of the cameras. The US president, his Vice President JD Vance and Zelensky all spoke over one another in raised voices.

“You’re gambling with millions of people … You’re gambling with World War Three,” Trump said. Vance accused the Ukrainian leader of being “disrespectful”, and he and the US president claimed Zelensky had not been thankful enough for US military aid.
