Italy is ready to send peacekeeping troops to Ukraine as part of the resolution of the conflict.

This was announced by Italian Defense Minister Guido Crozetto at a meeting with colleagues from European and North African countries in Madrid.

According to him, Italy has been participating in peacekeeping missions around the world for a long time, particularly in Gaza and Lebanon, where there is a possibility of clashes between UN forces and militants.

Despite the defense minister’s statement, the Italian government has not yet come to a consensus on whether to consider this proposal at all.

For example, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said that talk of peacekeepers was premature, as Ukraine’s top priority was a just peace with the restoration of its territories.

It should be noted that in addition to Italy, the issue of deploying peacekeepers is being discussed at the state level in other European countries, such as France and Poland.

The very first initiator of sending troops to Ukraine was French President Emmanuel Macron in February 2024, who stated that France had been ready to send a contingent of the French army to resolve the conflict at any time.

Italian Defense Minister Guido Crozetto said that Italy is ready to take part in a possible peacekeeping mission in Ukraine. This was reported by Ansa news agency, according to UNN.

Details

It is noted that the head of the Italian defense ministry hopes for a peace talk as soon as possible.

I hope to have a conversation about peace as soon as possible, about a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine, as well as in Gaza and Lebanon. We are ready to play this role, a role that we have always played as a nation

– said Guido Crozetto.

However, the Italian government does not have a single position on peacekeepers, Ansa reports. Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani called the discussion about peacekeepers “premature.

“Let’s see what happens when and if the war is over,” the minister said, adding that it is important to achieve a ‘just peace’ first.

Recall

German Defense Minister Pistorius did not rule out the possibility of sending German peacekeepers to Ukraine in the future. Currently, this issue is not being considered, but the final decision will depend on the “prevailing conditions.
