Report Says Pelosi Actively Working Against AOC’s Bid for Powerful House Position

There’s nothing better than watching the left eat the left because someone’s got to lose, and that’s always a good thing.

Two of the most divisive, extreme members of the U.S. House of Representatives—Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY)—are on different sides of the fence on a key issue, according to a report from Punchbowl News.

AOC evidently thinks she’s ready for bigger things and wants to be the top Democrat on the Oversight Committee in the new Congress, but Pelosi has other ideas. The two have long been seen to be maintaining a fraught though outwardly cordial relationship, but you can imagine Nance was none too happy to see the much younger representative waltz into Congress in 2018 with her large media following and loud opinions.

If you’ve ever been to high school, you know how these situations can progress.

Pelosi is said to be backing a different horse, one who has served quite a bit longer than AOC:

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is facing strong headwinds – including opposition from House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) – as she tries to become the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee.

Why it matters: Senior Democrats say that while Ocasio-Cortez is seen as the favorite over Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), the race is still in play.

The fight comes as several septuagenarian committee ranking members are facing desperate battles against – or yielding to – younger challengers.

“Many members are concerned about [the] precedent these races are setting,” one senior House Democrat told Axios.

RELATED: Nancy Pelosi trying to ‘tank’ AOC’s House Oversight Committee bid: report

Nancy Pelosi speaks at Chatham House to discuss challenges to American democracy and the importance of leadership in an election year in London on Oct. 14, 2024.
THE NEW YORK POST | Published December 13, 2024

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has reportedly launched a behind-the-scenes effort to thwart Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s bid to serve as the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee.

Pelosi (D-Calif.), 84, would rather see Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) serve as ranking member on the high-profile panel and is “actively working to tank” AOC’s bid, according to Punchbowl News.

The former House speaker has been “making calls” urging Democrats to support Connolly, 74, over Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), 35, the outlet reported Thursday.

Pelosi has publicly backed Connolly’s candidacy, but the scope of the powerful Democrat’s lobbying campaign was previously unknown.

Connolly and Ocasio-Cortez are in a heated intra-party race to replace current Oversight Committee ranking member Jamie Raskin (D-Md.).

The Democratic Steering and Policy Committee will meet next week and make a recommendation to the full Democratic caucus on who should be elected ranking member on the panel tasked with handling oversight of the incoming Trump administration.

Multiple outlets have reported that Ocasio-Cortez has the support of the majority of Democrats on the oversight panel.

Ocasio-Cortez also appears to have an unlikely ally in House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.).
