KYIV — Russia has launched a series of missile and drone attacks across Ukraine, killing dozens of people and damaging residential buildings, industrial sites and critical infrastructure, according to Ukrainian officials and emergency authorities.
The heaviest casualties were reported in Pryluky, where a Russian missile struck a five-story residential building. Ukrainian authorities said at least 20 people, including children, were killed in the attack. Other strikes were reported in Kyiv, Dnipro, Kremenchuk and several other regions.
Ukraine’s air force said Russia launched a large number of drones and missiles during the overnight assault. Ukrainian authorities also reported damage to energy infrastructure, prompting emergency power restrictions in parts of the country.
On October 8, further Russian drone attacks were reported across Ukraine, including strikes or falling debris affecting residential areas and critical infrastructure in several regions.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said its forces targeted military-industrial facilities and other sites connected to Ukraine’s military capabilities. Ukrainian officials have said the attacks are also causing widespread damage to civilian infrastructure.
The escalation comes as both sides continue long-range drone and missile strikes, with Ukraine also carrying out attacks against Russian oil, energy and other infrastructure. On October 8, a Ukrainian drone strike hit a Yandex data center in Russia, causing a fire and service disruptions.
The latest attacks come amid continuing diplomatic efforts to end the war, but no ceasefire agreement has been reached.
