Trump said that ‘it is no longer in the national interest’ for those listed in the memo to have access to classified information
In a move that has intensified political tensions, President Donald Trump issued a memorandum on Friday revoking the security clearances of several prominent political figures, including former President Joe Biden, former Vice President Kamala Harris, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. This action extends to other individuals such as Attorney General Letitia James, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, and former officials Antony Blinken, Jake Sullivan, and Lisa Monaco.

Traditionally, former presidents and senior officials retain access to classified information to provide advisory support on national security matters. However, President Trump’s directive marks a significant departure from this norm, effectively barring these individuals from accessing sensitive information and secure government facilities.
The President’s memorandum instructs executive departments and agencies to take necessary actions to revoke these clearances and deny the affected individuals access to classified information. This decision follows President Biden’s 2021 move to block Trump from intelligence briefings, citing concerns about his behavior.
Critics argue that this action appears retaliatory, targeting political opponents and raising concerns about the politicization of security protocols. The list of those affected includes not only Democrats but also anti-Trump Republicans like Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney, both of whom were key witnesses in Trump’s impeachment trials.
The revocation of security clearances for former officials and political adversaries underscores the escalating partisan divide and raises questions about the future handling of security privileges for past government officials
