WATCH LIVE: Democrat Sanctuary City Mayors Face Questioning from House Oversight Committee During “A Hearing with Sanctuary City Mayors” – 10 AM ET

THE GATEWAY PUNDIT | Published March 5, 2025

The House Oversight Committee will question sanctuary city officials during a hearing investigating “their refusal to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.”

The mayors of the most pro-illegal immigrant cities, including Michelle Wu of Boston, Brandon Johnson of Chicago, Mike Johnston of Denver, and Eric Adams of New York, will testify Wednesday morning before the committee.

Eric Adams has taken charge in New York to stop illegal aliens from taking over and agreed to work with President Trump and Border Czar Tom Homan, which led to targeting by the Biden Regime and New York Democrats.

However, the other mayors have been subjects of DOJ lawsuits to force them to follow the law.

The House Oversight Committee released the following trailer ahead of today’s hearing, which is expected to be explosive:

Via House Oversight Committee:

WASHINGTON— House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) announced a hearing on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, with the mayors of Boston, Chicago, Denver, and New York City to examine their refusal to cooperate with federal immigration authorities. In January, Chairman Comer launched an investigation into the policies of sanctuary jurisdictions and their impact on public safety and federal immigration enforcement.

“The pro-illegal alien mayors of Boston, Chicago, Denver, and New York City have implemented reckless, illegal policies that shield criminal aliens from federal immigration enforcement and endanger public safety. Criminal alien predators should not be free to roam our communities. State and local governments that refuse to comply with federal immigration enforcement efforts should not receive a penny of federal funding. President Trump and his administration are rightfully taking action against sanctuary cities. On March 5, the House Oversight Committee will hold sanctuary mayors publicly accountable for refusing to abide by the law and placing Americans’ lives at risk,” said Chairman Comer.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams takes his seat as he arrives for a House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform hearing titled “A Hearing with Sanctuary City Mayors,” on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, on March 5, 2025.

Mayor Eric Adams and three other Democratic mayors are in the hot seat Wednesday for a high-stakes congressional hearing on sanctuary cities.

Adams walked a political tightrope on sanctuary city laws – not defending the city policy or speaking out against it – during brief comments to reporters before the hearing.

“That is the law,” he said, when pressed on whether there’s any room to move on sanctuary laws.

“But I also want to share with the congressional leadership here how we collaborate every day with our federal partners at going after those who are dangerous in our city. And that is who I’ve always been.”

The mayor is testifying alongside Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and Denver Mayor Mike Johnston.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Kentucky) introduced Adams, calling him “outstanding” but did not offer such pleasantries to his counterparts in Chicago, Denver or Boston.

Adams has signaled a willingness to help with President Trump’ immigration crackdown – an openness that many Democrats and critics argued is tied to an allegedly improper “quid pro quo” to have the Department of Justice drop his corruption case.

He opened his remarks trying to walk a fine line.

“I’m here today to testify on how New York City people seem to reduce crime, even as a sanctuary city,” Adams said in his opening statement.
