The physical MacBook Pro became particularly significant when federal prosecutors presented it as evidence during the 2024 trial. The Post reported that the device was identified as belonging to Hunter Biden, adding weight to the argument that the controversy cannot simply be explained as a collection of hacked or fabricated files.

The laptop controversy dates back to the final weeks of the 2020 presidential campaign, when material obtained from a Delaware computer repair shop was published by the New York Post. The reporting immediately triggered a fierce political and media battle over whether the material was authentic, manipulated or part of a foreign influence operation.
Years later, portions of the material were authenticated by major news organizations, while the physical computer became part of the federal investigation and later courtroom proceedings.
Hunter Biden’s latest comments therefore reopen an argument that has never completely disappeared from American politics: what exactly happened to the laptop, how its contents were obtained, and what the material reveals about Hunter Biden’s business activities and his family’s political connections.
The controversy has also been revived by New York Post columnist Miranda Devine, who wrote on August 12 that Hunter Biden used Carlson’s platform to repeat what she characterized as false claims about the laptop. In the end, the question is not whether Hunter Biden can control the narrative. It is whether the American public can finally get a complete and unfiltered accounting of what happened.
