KYIV, Ukraine | Russia launched hundreds of drones in attacks across Ukraine over the past day, killing at least 10 people and injuring dozens, according to Ukrainian regional authorities. The strikes affected multiple regions, with Kirovohrad Oblast experiencing what its regional governor described as the largest attack since Russia began its full-scale invasion in February 2022.
The overnight attacks targeted areas across the country, including Kropyvnytskyi, the administrative center of Kirovohrad Oblast. Regional governor Andrii Raikovych said three people were killed and six injured in attacks on the city.
Authorities in other regions also reported casualties and damage from the latest wave of Russian strikes. The attacks came amid continued Russian use of drones and missiles against Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.
Russia has increased its use of jet-powered attack drones, which travel faster than conventional propeller-driven models and pose additional challenges for Ukrainian air defenses. A Reuters report published October 15 said Russia had rapidly built a new drone launch facility in the Rostov region near the Ukrainian border.
The latest assault follows a series of deadly Russian attacks earlier in October. On October 14, Russian strikes killed civilians and damaged energy facilities, leaving hundreds of thousands of people without electricity, according to Ukrainian officials.
Ukrainian authorities continued assessing casualties and damage following the latest attacks. The figures reported by regional officials may change as emergency services complete their work.
