Russian strikes hit energy infrastructure in the Dnipropetrovsk, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr and Khmelnytskyi regions overnight, damaging substations, transformers and power lines, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Sunday. He said repair crews were working at the sites and that hundreds of thousands of families remained without electricity. In western Ukraine, Ternopil governor Taras Pastukh said an attack on infrastructure in one town knocked out power to several localities.
Zelenskyy said the Russians were seeking to exploit a shortage of ballistic missile interceptors. Ukraine’s air force said it shot down 371 of 433 long-range drones launched by Russia since Saturday evening, with dozens still airborne Sunday morning.
Inside Russia, Nizhny Novgorod governor Gleb Nikitin said a large overnight Ukrainian drone attack caused significant damage to an industrial facility. He did not name the site.
Telegram channels cited by Ukrainian media said the target was the Lukoil refinery in the Kstovo district, and local residents reported explosions. These channel reports were not independently confirmed. Russia’s Defense Ministry said it downed 235 Ukrainian drones overnight.
Zelenskyy also confirmed a Ukrainian strike on the Kamensky facility in Russia’s Rostov region, which he said makes components for Russian missiles. Moscow did not comment on that reported attack.
The attacks came as a six-day local ceasefire around the Russian-controlled town of Oleshky reached its final day, with no letup in fighting elsewhere.
Russia said Friday that Ukraine had resumed strikes on its oil refineries, accusing Kyiv of ignoring a request from U.S. President Donald Trump to stop. Ukraine says it supports a full ceasefire on energy targets, including its own power grid, but that Moscow is unwilling to agree.
