Bombing like they have never seen before’: Why has Donald Trump threatened Iran?

A Renewed Confrontation Over Iran’s Nuclear Program

U.S. President Donald Trump has escalated tensions with Iran by threatening military action if Tehran does not agree to a new nuclear deal. In a recent statement, Trump warned, “If they don’t make a deal, there will be bombing. It will be bombing the likes of which they have never seen before.” This marks one of the strongest ultimatums issued by the U.S. in its long-standing nuclear dispute with Iran.

Background: The Iran Nuclear Deal Dispute

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal, was established in 2015 to limit Iran’s nuclear capabilities in exchange for lifted economic sanctions. However, in 2018, Trump withdrew the U.S. from the agreement, reinstating harsh sanctions and labeling the deal ineffective.

Since then, Iran has gradually expanded its nuclear activities, drawing concern from the international community. Reports indicate that Tehran has enriched uranium beyond the limits set by the JCPOA, leading to speculation about its nuclear intentions.

Iran’s Defiant Response

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian dismissed Trump’s threats and rejected direct negotiations with the U.S., citing a lack of trust following the American withdrawal from the JCPOA. However, Pezeshkian did leave room for indirect talks through intermediaries.

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, went further, warning that any U.S. military action would be met with severe retaliation. “If the Americans think they can intimidate us with threats, they are mistaken. Our response will be decisive and painful,” Khamenei stated in a televised address.

Iran’s military has also signaled preparedness, reportedly mobilizing missile systems and increasing regional defense readiness. Analysts fear that any miscalculation could spark a broader Middle Eastern conflict, involving regional allies and potentially disrupting global markets.

In a post on X, they said, “Information received by the Tehran Times indicates that Iran’s missiles are loaded onto launchers in all underground missile cities and are ready for launch. Opening the Pandora’s box will come at a heavy cost for the U.S. government and its allies.”

Global Reactions and Possible Consequences

The international community is watching the situation closely, with European nations calling for diplomatic engagement to prevent an escalation. While the U.S. and its allies have long accused Iran of destabilizing activities in the region, many fear that military confrontation would lead to severe consequences, including energy market disruptions and increased regional instability.

Experts warn that a U.S. military strike could trigger Iranian retaliation against American assets and allies, further deepening the crisis. Diplomatic voices continue to urge a return to negotiations to prevent another prolonged conflict in the Middle East.

The Uncertain Road Ahead

As tensions mount, the key question remains whether diplomatic efforts can de-escalate the situation before military action becomes a reality. With both sides showing little willingness to compromise, the risk of confrontation looms large. The coming weeks will be critical in determining whether this crisis can be defused through diplomacy or if the region is headed toward yet another conflict.
