Russia says its forces have struck Ukrainian steel production facilities, energy infrastructure and ships as Moscow continues its military campaign against Ukraine. The reported strikes highlight the continued targeting of industrial and logistical assets amid the ongoing war.

The claims come as Russia and Ukraine continue exchanging attacks on infrastructure and military-related targets. However, the full extent of the reported damage and any casualties require independent confirmation.

Steelworks, Power Substations and Black Sea Shipping Targeted

According to Russia’s Defence Ministry, the overnight operation targeted several Ukrainian industrial and infrastructure sites, including the country’s largest steelworks in Kryvyi Rih, owned by ArcelorMittal. The company suspended operations at the facility in September following a series of Russian ballistic missile strikes.

Russian officials said the steelworks supplied products to Ukraine’s military-industrial complex. Moscow also reported strikes on an electricity substation in Zhytomyr, another steel plant in Zaporizhzhia, and a vehicle-repair facility in Lutsk.

The ministry further claimed that Russian forces struck two cargo vessels associated with Ukrainian ports. It alleged that the ships were carrying military or dual-use cargo intended for Ukraine. These claims have not been independently verified.

Energy and Industrial Infrastructure

The reported attacks come as Ukraine faces continued pressure on its energy system and industrial production. Strikes on electricity substations can disrupt power distribution, while damage to steel production facilities may affect industrial supply chains.

The Kryvyi Rih steelworks had already suspended operations before the latest reported attack, meaning the additional impact on production was not immediately clear.

Russia has repeatedly described its attacks on Ukrainian industrial and logistical facilities as efforts to weaken Kyiv’s military capabilities. Ukraine has also conducted long-range strikes against targets inside Russia, including energy and logistics infrastructure.

Verification and Current Status

Reuters reported that it could not independently confirm the Russian Defence Ministry’s claims. Details about the extent of the damage, the condition of the vessels and any casualties were not immediately established in the available reporting.

The reported strikes underscore the continued vulnerability of Ukraine’s industrial facilities, electricity infrastructure and Black Sea shipping routes as the war continues.
