‘The Pendulum Has Shifted’: San Francisco Pride Loses Several Corporate Sponsors

| Published March 21, 2025

San Francisco Pride, one of the nation’s most prominent LGBTQ+ celebrations, is confronting a significant financial shortfall as several longstanding corporate sponsors have withdrawn their support. Notable companies such as Comcast, Anheuser-Busch, Diageo, and La Crema have collectively pulled approximately $300,000 in funding for the 2025 festivities.

The event, which attracts over a million attendees annually, operates on a budget of around $3.2 million, with a substantial portion historically covered by corporate sponsorships. This year, organizers aimed to secure $2.3 million through sponsorships but have currently secured only $1 million, intensifying efforts to bridge the funding gap.

Sponsors have cited budget constraints as the primary reason for their withdrawal. However, Suzanne Ford, executive director of San Francisco Pride, suggests that the current political climate, marked by increased anti-DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) sentiment, may have influenced these decisions. She expressed disappointment over the loss of these long-term partners but remains resolute in ensuring the event proceeds as planned.

The withdrawal of support from these companies has raised concerns about the future of San Francisco Pride and its ability to organize events that celebrate the LGBTQ+ community.

Despite these financial challenges, organizers are actively seeking new funding sources and remain committed to hosting the event on June 28-29. The festival not only serves as a vibrant celebration of LGBTQ+ culture but also significantly contributes to San Francisco’s economy. Organizers emphasize the importance of community support and donations to ensure the continued success of Pride festivities in the face of evolving corporate sponsorship landscapes.
