After a delay from the Israeli government, the release of 110 Palestinian prisoners has begun. This follows the confirmation by the Israeli military of the release of three Israelis, one male and two female, and five Thai nationals from captivity in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas has confirmed the killing of military commander Mohammed Deif. Israel says he was killed in July.
An Israeli air strike killed at least 10 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank town of Tammun as Israel’s military intensifies operations in the occupied territory.
More than 500,000 Palestinians have returned to north Gaza where people are waiting for more aid to enter the enclave, Al Jazeera’s team on the ground reports.
Israel’s ban on the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) in occupied East Jerusalem, Gaza, and the occupied West Bank is due to start January 30.
Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 47,417 Palestinians and wounded 111,571 since October 7, 2023. At least 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led attacks that day and more than 200 were taken captive.

Israel released 110 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for three Israeli hostages held by Hamas in the third round of exchanges in the Gaza ceasefire deal, which is in its second week. Five Thai workers held captive in the enclave were also freed in a separate deal with Thailand.
