Southern Lebanon — Israeli forces continued military operations across southern Lebanon, carrying out airstrikes, artillery fire, machine-gun attacks and reported demolitions in several communities despite a U.S.-mediated framework agreement intended to reduce hostilities and facilitate an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory.

According to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA), the latest attacks affected areas in the Tyre, Nabatieh, Marjayoun and Bint Jbeil districts. Reports described damage to homes, artillery bombardment and explosions in several locations. Anadolu Agency and Azerbaijani news outlets reported similar details based on NNA accounts.

Multiple Areas Targeted

In the Tyre district, Israeli forces reportedly demolished several homes in Mansouri, while Wadi Zibqin came under artillery and heavy-machine-gun fire.

In Nabatieh, Israeli aircraft struck Nabatieh al-Fawqa, the outskirts of Kfar Tibnit and Mayfadoun. One reported strike in Mayfadoun completely destroyed a house. Artillery fire was also reported around Kafr Rumman.

The attacks extended into Marjayoun, where artillery reportedly struck the outskirts of Mazraat al-Shomeriya and Al-Qusayr.

In Bint Jbeil, machine-gun fire was reported toward Beit Yahoun and Safarin. An Israeli tank reportedly fired four shells at Hadatha before Israeli forces moved toward the town center and set fire to an area there.

The pattern follows other attacks reported throughout September, including airstrikes, artillery shelling, explosions, bulldozing and the burning of homes in several southern Lebanese communities.

Israel Cites Hezbollah Drone Attack

The Israeli military said the latest operations were carried out in response to an explosive-laden drone that it alleged Hezbollah had launched toward Israeli forces in what Israel calls its security zone in southern Lebanon.

That allegation has not been independently established in the available reports, and Hezbollah had not publicly commented on the Israeli claim at the time of reporting.

The Israeli military has previously cited threats from Hezbollah as justification for continued operations in southern Lebanon.

U.S.-Mediated Framework Faces Continued Strain

The latest violence comes despite a framework agreement reached through U.S. mediation in June. The arrangement calls for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory alongside the deployment of the Lebanese army and measures concerning Hezbollah.

The agreement has remained difficult to implement as Israeli forces continue to operate in parts of southern Lebanon.

Lebanese officials have argued that continuing Israeli attacks and the presence of Israeli forces inside Lebanese territory are obstructing implementation of the agreement. President Joseph Aoun previously said that Lebanon had fulfilled its commitments under the framework while calling for Israeli withdrawal and greater deployment of the Lebanese army in the south.

Humanitarian and Security Impact

Lebanese authorities have reported a substantial toll from the ongoing Israeli military campaign.

According to figures cited by Anadolu Agency from Lebanese authorities, Israeli military operations in Lebanon since March 2 had killed at least 4,386 people, injured 12,407 and displaced more than 1 million people as of the latest reporting.

Earlier September reporting also described strikes on residential areas and reported casualties, including deaths in Kfar Rumman.

The figures are provided by Lebanese authorities and should be understood within the limitations of wartime casualty reporting.

What Happens Next

The immediate concern is whether the latest exchange of attacks will remain localized or trigger another broader escalation between Israel and Hezbollah.

The framework agreement provides a diplomatic mechanism for reducing hostilities, but continued Israeli military operations and unresolved questions over Hezbollah’s weapons, Israeli positions in Lebanon and the role of the Lebanese army continue to complicate its implementation.

Further diplomatic engagement involving the United States, Lebanon and Israel is likely to remain important as the parties attempt to prevent the southern Lebanon conflict from expanding.

🧩 Bottom Line:

Israeli airstrikes, artillery fire and other military operations have continued across southern Lebanon despite a U.S.-mediated framework designed to establish a path toward Israeli withdrawal and greater Lebanese state control.

The latest attacks have affected multiple communities and reportedly caused additional destruction, while the broader dispute over security arrangements and territory remains unresolved. The continuation of hostilities highlights the gap between the framework’s stated objectives and conditions on the ground.
