A hotel near Mount Everest Base Camp in Nepal was destroyed by fire after flames broke out at Hotel Good Luck in Dingboche, a popular overnight destination for international trekkers.
The fire occurred on Friday, October 30, 2026, in the kitchen area of the 17-room establishment. The hotel is located in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-5 in Solukhumbu district, along the trekking route leading toward Everest Base Camp.
According to reports from local media, hotel owner Kul Bahadur Tamang confirmed that all guests and staff were safely evacuated. No casualties or injuries had been reported following the incident.
Preliminary information from police indicated that a cooking gas cylinder may have caused the fire. Deputy Superintendent of Police Nabin Raja Budhathoki said investigators were examining the circumstances surrounding the incident to establish its exact cause.
The hotel’s wooden exterior reportedly contributed to the rapid spread of the flames. The presence of multiple gas cylinders in the kitchen also complicated efforts to control the fire.
Local residents and police participated in efforts to contain the blaze. The hotel’s main building was reportedly destroyed, although the full extent of the property damage was still being assessed in subsequent reports.
Dingboche is an important stop for climbers and trekkers heading toward Everest Base Camp. The settlement serves as an acclimatization destination for visitors preparing to travel to higher elevations in the Himalayas.
The incident highlights the potential fire hazards facing accommodation facilities in remote mountain communities, where access to emergency equipment and firefighting resources can be limited.
Authorities have not yet released a final determination of the fire’s cause.
