On April 24, 2025, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth dismissed all members of the Pentagon’s advisory committees, including former U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice, as part of a broader reorganization effort to align the Department of Defense with the current administration’s strategic priorities.
In response, Rice criticized Hegseth, accusing him of serious security breaches, including using unsecured connections to run Signal on a personal computer, which she deemed a major threat to national security. She labeled Hegseth as unqualified and irresponsible, asserting that his actions compromised national safety and that his position was untenable.
During an interview with No Lie with BTC podcast host Brian Taylor Cohen, Rice criticized Hegseth, calling him incompetent and claiming he was promoted solely because he is “a white, male, Christian, cisgender, macho MAGA man.”
Susan Rice: “Well, if you’re a white male Christian cisgender macho MAGA man, you can be as dumb as a rock and be deemed qualified to serve as Secretary of Defense. That’s apparently what we’ve learned from this episode.
But let’s also be clear, there’s a serious point here. DEI has been used as a slur to suggest that anybody who might be a woman, might be a person of color, might be a religious minority, might have a disability, might be a religious minority, might be a veteran of Native descent, anybody who has benefited in any way, shape, or form from the notion that we all should be treated equally and that we should be viewed on the basis of our merits and not discounted because we happen to be a woman or happen to be a person of color. Anybody who fits the mold of somebody who is not a white Christian cisgender male, is by definition in this administration deemed inferior. That is the vast majority of the people in this country.”
That was really ugly, even for Susan.

The dismissals and subsequent criticisms have intensified internal conflicts within the Pentagon, complicating ongoing investigations into unauthorized disclosures of sensitive information. This situation has raised concerns about the leadership and stability of the Department of Defense under Hegseth’s tenure.
The Gateway Pundit reported on Friday that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has formally terminated the service of every member sitting on the Department of Defense’s advisory committees.
Based on the information available on the website as of Thursday, the now-defunct panels included several well-known Democrats and Bush-era Republicans.

- Michèle Flournoy – Held major Pentagon roles under Clinton and Obama; often discussed as a potential Secretary of Defense under Hillary Clinton or Biden.
- Colin Kahl – National Security Advisor to then-VP Biden, later Under Secretary of Defense for Policy under Biden. Key Biden ally and architect of many failed Middle East strategies during the Obama years.
