KFAR RUMMAN, Lebanon — Israeli warplanes launched a wave of airstrikes across southern Lebanon, killing at least 11 people—including two infants and two paramedics—in one of the deadliest attacks since the U.S.-brokered ceasefire. The strikes have intensified fears that the fragile truce between Israel and Hezbollah is rapidly unraveling.
According to Lebanese authorities, the heaviest strike hit a three-story residential building in the town of Kfar Rumman, while a separate drone attack targeted a civilian vehicle carrying emergency medical personnel. Several others were wounded as rescue teams searched through the rubble.
Israel says Hezbollah attacks prompted retaliation
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the operation was carried out in response to Hezbollah’s recent explosive-drone attacks against Israeli troops near the border. Israeli officials maintained that the strikes were aimed at Hezbollah operatives and military infrastructure, although Lebanese officials insist civilians bore the brunt of the bombardment.
The military confrontation comes despite a ceasefire framework negotiated with U.S. mediation earlier this year, an agreement that has been repeatedly strained by cross-border drone attacks, artillery exchanges, and targeted airstrikes.

Lebanon condemns “dangerous escalation”
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun denounced the strikes as a serious violation of the ceasefire and accused Israel of attacking civilian institutions rather than legitimate military targets. Local officials described the destruction in Kfar Rumman as a massacre, with entire families caught inside the collapsed residential building.
Hezbollah has not officially commented on the civilian casualties, though fighting along the frontier has continued in recent days with sporadic drone and rocket attacks.
